Collecting Antique Prints Antique prints are wonderful to collect and display. They represent our history, the method in which scientists, artists and historians documented nature and society and they are a fine representation of the things that were considered important, decorative and beautiful in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Fine antique prints rarely loose value over time if properly preserved. All of the antique prints we sell are guaranteed authentic. We collect these prints from antique books and from other dealers and estates. We do the very best we can to find the publishing history of each print and to provide you with thorough information about the print's condition. The images you see on our web pages are either high resolution scans (prints 8.5" by 11.7" or less) or digital photo images. If you would like to see more detail on any specific antique or vintage print you can always email us. We will do our best to accomodate you.
Matting and Framing Services All of our antique prints and decorative art is sold without matting unless noted, e.g., Audubon antique prints are sold with archival matting. We offer matting for any of the prints we sell and for most of our listings there is a matting option on the product page. All of our mats are acid free musuem quality rag material. We use antique colors that closely match or complement the colors of the background paper and generally proivde about a 2.75" to 3" mat margin or border.

Other Preservation Choices When framing your prints we recommend that you use a professional custom picture framer, one who is familiar with conservation and preservation. Always ask for acid free materials and your glazing or glass should provide UV protection to ensure minimal fading or light damage over time. Your antique prints should never be wet-mounted or vacuum mounted to a backer, conservation hinging is always the best choice to preserve the art and its value.
About our Antique Print & Historic Map Reproduction Prints We offer high quality fine art reproductions of many of the original antique prints or maps we sell on our website. We also have an archive of hundreds of sold and unsold images including maps that have been digitally stored as high resolution scans allowing reproduction on demand. A variety of sizes are available proportionate to the original image and for some prints a choice of paper or canvas.
Our fine art prints or "giclee" prints are faithfully reproduced from a high resolution digital scan of the original print. We digitally clean up some image imperfections such as stray marks, tears, fold lines, foxing or staining but we try to maintain all of the original coloring and age toning. Engraving plate lines, paper textures, irregularities from hand drawn lines and other unique original features are all maintained. The images are printed on heavy weight, archival matte or 100% cotton rag papers (smooth or textured) or archival canvas using UltraChrome™ pigmented inks offering the highest light fastness ratings achievable for exceptional quality, vibrancy and durability. We do not print on glossy poster paper or thin paper. We use only fine art papers that will ensure fine color and detail in our prints.
