Description: This antique print of the Red-Headed Turkey Vulture, or Turkey Vulture is a first edition royal octavo taken directly from installment or Fascicle #1 with original unbound edge. The antique plate is in good condition with age toning to the paper, which is normal for the age of the print. Minor wrinkling of the top of the page not affecting the print. Beautiful hand colored stone lithograph with bright true coloring, guaranteed original.
Of the Turkey Vulture Audubon writes, "The flight of the Turkey-Buzzard is graceful compared with that of the Black Vulture. It sails admirablely either high or low, with its wings spread beyond the horizontal position, and their tips bent upward by the weight of the body."
Print is sold matted with antique colored archival matting and backing. Included with the antique print is the original text as available, a copy of Audubon's Preface and the Subscribers list from the related installment.
