Bartlett's American Scenery, hand colored steel engraving of Lake Winnipesaukee, New Hampshire. Print is in very good condition with some minor spotting in the margins away from edges and would be covered by matting, fine hand coloring with colors of soft greens and blues. William Henry Bartlett (1809-1854) was British topographical illustrator especially trained to draw for steel plate engravings. He traveled to America in 1835 to draw the buildings, towns and scenery of the northeastern states. American Scenery was published by George Virtue in London in monthly installments from 1836 to 1841. Bound editions of the work were published from 1840 onward. The finely detailed steel engravings were published uncolored. Our Bartlett original antique prints were hand-colored sometime after publication.
