Description
Description: Abbe Laurent Berlese’ camellia flowers; pink, white, and striated, created the definitive work on the subject. Each flower was drawn by J.J. Jung, member of the Royal Society for Horticulture in Paris, from the varieties grown in the gardens and hothouses of Berlese, an Italian botanist who became the world's leading authority on the subject. The fine quality prints were engraved by Dumenil, Gabriel and Oudet, and printed by N. Remond, Paris. The subtle distinctions of many of the 508 varieties of camellias classified by Berlese are beautifully represented with scientific accuracy in this authoritative series of prints, through the use of the sophisticated stipple engraving technique. Each print was hand color finished to fully represent the beautiful flowers. Camellia Fraserie Rubia is a beautiful dark pink rendering including a bud in good condition. There is a thumb size greenish watercolor mark above the top center green leaf.
