These education charts were purchased in their original condition, rolled up and attached to a large rod for hanging similar to a flip chart. They are double sided and edged in linen to keep the edges from fraying with use. The images are printed on a heavy stock paper that shows some wrinkles or creases from being rolled up for a very long time. The images are printed close to the edges and some of the linen bindings are soiled and/or lifted from the edges. Website images are accurate to condition and are based upon a flat scan. These prints are currently stored flat but still roll when not weighted down.
The New Education charts or Teacher’s Compendium was a teaching tool developed for use in the classroom in the 1890s. The complete compendium or flip chart of 10 double sided pages is illustrated by 5,000 chromo-lithographs depicting various schemes of arithmetic, reading, bookkeeping, civil Government and parliamentary law, basic lumber and land measurements, weights and measures and the like. The images are remarkable in the use of realistic scenes of the day for application of the studies. These chromolithographs are terrific examples of the art of chromolithography. The colors are vibrant and almost give the appearance of being hand colored.
