It's called the Rocky Mountain front - where the plains meet the mountains. Early summer is a favorite time for me. The cloud shadows drift across the prairies where the green grass has returned. Here the grasses are flowering, but there’s still snow on the peaks. The prairie is very colorful, with all kinds of flowers. The renewed plant life, the crisp atmosphere, and the lingering snow in the high country certainly lifted my spirits. When I was there, there was a herd of cattle grazing. But 150 years ago, the bison would have dotted the landscape. I wished I could have seen the great herds of bison that once frequented the area. This was Blackfeet Indian Territory. Because of their hostile nature, it was one of the last places in the United States to be settled. But eventually it was, so I enjoy picturing nature's majesty before the abuse of the environment. About the Artist: Tucker Smith was raised on a small farm outside of St. Paul, Minnesota. When he was 12 years old, his family relocated to the western slope of the Wind River Range in Wyoming. Drawing was a hobby for Smith as a child. His family viewed art as a hobby, so he studied math at the University of Wyoming and minored in art. After completing his degree, he moved to Montana to work as a computer programmer and systems analyst for the state. During that time he painted part-time, but he eventually realized that painting was his passion and retired in 1971 to become a professional artist
